"The education that our children receive at an early age shapes who they become as an adult. There is no greater impact you can have on a life than helping pave the path toward a quality education."
Noel Massie currently sits on the Board of Chapter One, which is an organization dedicated to early education. TutorMate is the key program within Innovations for Learning and supports reading development for children 7 years of age and under through corporate volunteer engagement, mentoring young children on a weekly basis. “My first experience with virtual volunteering was through TutorMate and I can’t say enough about the experience, quite frankly,” Massie says. “It’s an amazing concept that allows you to be in your office and volunteer at the same time. This provides professionals an opportunity to manage busy schedules with the rewarding experience of giving back.”
During his time with UPS and continuing into retirement, Noel Massie has continuously helped facilitate the donation and distribution of thousands of books into deserving hands, specifically families participating in the Special Supplemental Assistance Program. “Research has proven that children who read in their adolescent years have better brain development and perform far better in school,” Massie says. I’ve been thrilled to play an integral role in this effort.”
Noel Massie learned at a young age about the ability of education to open doors. And if it wasn’t for great teachers and committed mentors along the way, he may not be in the position he is today–the position to give back. That’s why Massie is committed to advancing equity in early childhood education and exploring innovative ways to enhance access to quality education for children across the United States.
